Making Children a National Political Priority

Tell Congress to Hold Hearings on 10,440 Child Abuse and Neglect Deaths

ECM and its partners—the National Association of Social Workers, the National Children’s Alliance, and the National District Attorneys Association—are placing ads in prominent Washington political papers today and tomorrow imploring Congress to stop these deaths.

By holding hearings, providing emergency funds to stop state cuts in child protective services, and adopting a national strategy to end maltreatment deaths, Congress can bring the attention and resources to bear on what has become a national tragedy.

Official reports show that nearly five children in America die every day from abuse or neglect. In the period we studied, 2001-2007, 10,440 children died, and experts say the real number is probably much higher. If our national lawmakers hear from you at the same time they see the ads, we can make a sizeable impact on their collective consciousness.

Please send a letter to your Representative and Senators today. It’s an easy way to make a big difference. Just enter your zip code below to get started.

Thank you for helping to make children a political priority!
